THE IDEA BEHIND MERRY GRAMMARIAN

Merry Grammarian is an idea that I have been kicking around for a long time. The concept behind Merry Grammarian is to provide quality bite-sized content to people who are hungry for reading books but do not have the time to read as many books as they would like to.

Knowledge empowers! Our objective with Merry Grammarian is to empower people with knowledge and erudition that helps improve professional lives. And symbiotically improve personal lives too.

This website is a labor of love for me. A passion project if you will.

If you like this website and would like to support it. You could do one of the following:

  1. Hire my company Steeped Digital to do Search Engine Optimization work for your business or recommend us to someone who needs SEO work done to drive traffic to their business.
  2. Buy one of the Top Books on Amazon that we recommend. If you click on a link to buy a book on this website, then Amazon pays us a small commission.
  3. Buy one of the Internet services we recommend. That service provider will similarly pay us a small affiliate commission.

More than anything else, we hope that you enjoy the summaries of books that we post.

Send us your comments and suggestions. We read every one.

WHAT IS IN A NAME

Merry Grammarian is probably a slightly strange name for a website! I felt, however, that this might be an appropriate name for this website for two reasons.

This name does seem to be about books. And because of a particular history of one of these two words with me!

So here is this bit of history. My English teacher in High School had pointed out to me repeatedly that I needed to correct my ‘split infinitives.’

I had argued that the split infinitives were not grammatically wrong, as they were clearly acceptable in common usage – Mind you, this was right in the time of Star Trek being shown on TV every week. The opening credits of the show memorably went “To boldly go………….” Need one say more!

My teacher didn’t enjoy the reference to Star Trek as a grammar check very much. His unamused reply to me was, “Ok, Mr. Grammarian, but you will write without the split infinitive”!

As regards the Merry, let’s say that that is just a positive state of mind!
